How it Happened
  • After the teams split the first eight points, Jaelynn Elgert recorded a pair of service aces as part of a 4-0 run.
  • UTC climbed back within a point, but a pair of kills from Mellanie King, and one each from Amie Greene and Kenzie Kellerman helped push the lead to five.
  • The Mocs would use a 6-2 run to take a 19-18 lead, but the Bulldogs responded with a 4-1 run for the 22-20 advantage.
  • King set up set point with a call, and an error from the Mocs gave the first set to the 'Dogs.
  • The second set opened with three kills from Sharlissa de Jesus to open an 8-3 advantage for the Bulldogs.
  • The Citadel used its defense to open a 19-9 advantage in the set. Maddy Cardenas and de Jesus combined for a block, before de Jesus teamed with Gina Delancey for a stuff on the next point.
  • Delancey and Makaya Middleton made it three-straight blocks.
  • The Mocs scored four-straight points to pull within six, but the Bulldogs stopped the run and got a kill from Middleton to take the set.
  • UTC got off to a quick start in the third set as they opened an 11-6 lead.
  • Three-straight kills from de Jesus swung the momentum back to the Bulldogs and helped spark a run to tie the set, 16-16.
  • With the teams exchanging points and remaining tied, 21-21, The Citadel rattled off the next three points. The run was aided by a pair of hitting errors from the Mocs.
  • Two-straight points for UTC made it a one-point set, but the 'Dogs went to de Jesus and she put away the match with a thunderous kill.
