HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Citadel opened the High Point VertKlasse Meeting with a string of impressive performances on Thursday afternoon, posting eight top-10 finishes across seven events on the first day of the meet.
The men's team earned six of the eight performances, led by a pair of top-10 finishes in the hammer throw, and on the women's side,
Heidi Fortin posted one of the top times in program history in the 10,000m run.
Men's Results
- In the first event of the day, JP Caglione and Prince Howard-Whitaker got the Bulldogs off to a strong start in the hammer throw. Caglione brought home a fourth-place finish with a heave of 170-11 (52.10m), and Howard-Whitaker was just behind after his toss of 169-0 (51.52m) to finish in sixth place.
- Evan McDonald, fresh off his title in the javelin throw at last week's Weems Baskin Invitational, continued his hot start to the outdoor season. His mark of 166-9 (50.82m) was good for a fourth-place finish in the event on Thursday.
- Caglione added his second top-five of the day in the shot put, taking fifth place with a throw of 50-0 (15.24m).
- Sam Sharnas collected the lone track top-10 for the men, racing to a sixth-place finish in the 10,000m run in 31:36.65, the fourth-best time in school history.
- Lindsay Pierce rounded out the top-10 finishes for the Bulldogs on Thursday, finishing fourth in the pole vault B group after reaching 13-9.75 (4.21m) on his leap.
Women's Results
- Heidi Fortin turned in the fourth-best time in program history while competing in the 10,000m run, breaking the tape in 39:30.98 to finish sixth overall in the event.
- Milan Williams, the reigning Southern Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, kept up the momentum of her dominant start to the outdoor campaign, finishing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 42-9.75 (13.05m).

The Citadel will continue action on the final day of the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, with the meet slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw before concluding at approximately 4:50 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
