CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel defensive lineman
Carson Hatchett was named to the HERO Sports Freshman All-America Team, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Hatchett was honored after recording 39 tackles, one sack, 6.5 tackles-for-loss and two pass break-ups in eight games this season. He posted at least five tackles in five of the eight games played.
He got off to a strong start this spring as he registered a career-high nine tackles in his first action against Mercer. He followed it up with five tackles against Chattanooga and six stops against Western Carolina.
Hatchett made a habit of making plays behind the line scrimmage all spring as he had at least one tackle-for-loss in six of the eight games. He had 1.5 tackles-for-loss and a pair of quarterback hurries against Samford. He recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory over Furman.
Earlier this spring, Hatchett was named to the All-Southern Conference Second Team by the media, as well as to the All-Freshman Team by the head coaches.
