Middleton Has Career Day Against ETSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Makaya Middleton had a career-high 19 kills in a 3-2 (25-27, 26-28, 25-15, 25-20, 15-11) defeat against ETSU on Saturday evening.

How it Happened
  • Both teams were evenly matched in the first set until The Citadel went on a 4-0 scoring run to make it 10-6.
  • The Bulldogs jumped to an 18-12 lead with two kills from Makaya Middleton and Ali Ruffin and a service ace from Kathleen Bula.
  • ETSU managed to tie the set 20-20 off a 6-0 scoring run.
  • Late efforts from ETSU were insufficient, as the Bulldogs took the set with a kill from Ruffin and two attack errors from the Bucs.
  • The Citadel started the second set on a 10-2 run, led by Middleton's three kills and two service aces.
  • ETSU went on a 7-0 scoring run, narrowing the Bulldog lead down to 20-19.
  • Both teams went back and forth to secure the set but kills from Gina Delancey, and Maddy Cardenas secured the set for the Dogs.
  • The Bucs had a 13-9 lead to start the third set.
  • ETSU ended the third set on an 8-1 scoring run.
  • The Bucs took an early 7-3 lead to start the fourth set.
  • The Bulldogs took advantage of three attack errors to narrow the Bucs lead to 18-15.
  • A late kill from Ruffin was not enough as the Bucs took set four.
  • The Bulldogs came back from a 6-2 deficient in the fifth set, pulling the Bulldogs within one.
  • Kills from Sadie Gomez and Cardenas allowed the Dogs to pull within in one, but two late kills from the Bucs won the match.
