GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 2, 2022) – While it was host Furman's night to take a 102-83 victory Wednesday, The Citadel freshman Jason Roche had a historic night making seven threes to tie the freshman school season record of 80, while tallying his second-highest 3-point game total.

How it Happened

Furman opened on an 18-3 run and had 26 points before The Citadel reached double digits at 26-11.
The Paladins kept the heat up making a whopping 14 threes in the opening 20 and shooting 63.6 percent (21-of-33) to take a 63-31 lead at the half.
Furman stretched its lead to as many as 43 points early in the second half. Both sides gradually worked in their reserves shortly thereafter, which saw great performances from Bulldogs such as Brock Wakefield and Dylan Engler in just their seventh and fifth appearance this season, respectively.
Jason Roche notched six of his threes in the second half to help The Citadel reduce its deficit over halfway by the final buzzer.

Inside the Box Score

The Paladins' 63 first-half points was attributed to shooting 63.6 percent for the opening 20 (21-of-33), including 14-of-20 on 3-point attempts and 7-of-9 free throws. They made 18 of their first 24 shots and 12 of their first 15 3-point attempts.
Jason Roche finished with a game-high 22 points, accounted by seven 3-pointers and making one free throw. It was his best game in made 3-pointers since making seven versus St. Andrews on Dec. 16, while his eight in the season-opener at Pitt on Nov. 9 is a career best.
Sharing space with Roche on the 3-point list was Rudy Fitzgibbons III (3-of-7 for 11 pts.), Tyler Moffe (2-of-4 for six pts.), Dylan Engler (2-of-2 for eight pts.), and Brock Wakefield (1-of-3 for five pts.).
Stephen Clark finished with 16 points and six rebounds, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 touch from the free throw line. He had one block.
The Bulldogs' inside game was met with five blocks from Furman. The Bulldogs led, 38-32, in rebounds.
Six Paladins scored in double figures, led by Jalen Slawson's 17 points. Alex Hunter (16 pts.) and Joe Anderson (14 pts.) each had four 3-pointers to lead the team.
Wednesday's final score marked the first time this season a SoCon opponent scored at least 100 points on the Bulldogs and first since VMI (103-110) on Jan. 16, 2021. Duke is the only other team to score 100-plus points on The Citadel's schedule this season. It also was the first time an opponent scored at least 60 points in a half since ETSU on Jan. 30, 2021.

Freshman Jason Roche is tied now with Preston Parks (2016-17) for the all-time school freshman season record for 3-pointers with 80.
Stephen Clark now has 116 career blocks for fourth all-time and his 54 this season ranks sixth all-time.
