Basketball Wraps Regular Season with Senior Day Against Furman

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel's four graduating players were recognized prior to Saturday's regular season finale hosting Furman. Despite a palpable home crowd, Furman earned its 20th win of the season, executing 57.1 percent shooting for the contest and 53 second-half points to outmatch the Bulldogs, 94-59.

  • Furman struck first with a 13-0 run to lead, 16-5, before The Citadel countered with an 8-0 run to cut it to three.
  • The Paladins responded with a 9-2 run to regain momentum, eventually taking a 41-29 advantage into halftime.
  • Although The Citadel opened the second half with tenacity, Furman inevitably sustained its excellence, getting its lead up to 20 by the second media timeout at 14:14 remaining.

  • Furman pulled away in the second half thanks to 53 second-half points, making 65.6 percent in the last 20 (21-32) to finish at 57.1 percent (36-63). The Paladins made 17-of-35 from behind the arc and a perfect 5-of-5 at the line.
  • The Citadel finished at 36.1 percent for the game (22-61), hitting 6-of-26 threes, but led Furman in free throws, making 9-of-12.

  • Furman's Alex Hunter led the game with 20 points, hitting 6-of-11 threes with six assists. Mike Bothwell tallied 17 points, while dishing out three assists.
Rising Through the Ranks!
  • Jason Roche added a pair of threes to finish the regular season with 104 made threes, setting a new Bulldogs freshman record and ranking second all-time behind Matt Frierson's 114 triples in 2017-18. Roche's total from behind the arc leads all NCAA Division I among freshmen.
  • Hayden Brown's 27th career double-double ties him with Mike Groselle (2009-13) for most in a career at The Citadel. His 1,358 points ties him for tenth all-time with Rodney McKeever (1973-76) and his 725 boards stands fourth all-time.
  • Stephen Clark's four blocks puts him at 73 blocks in one season, good for second all-time, and his 135 career blocks fourth all-time.
