Bulldogs Pick up Pair of Major Decisions at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Citadel got major decision victories from Michael McAleavey and Dazjon Casto in a 29-11 setback at Chattanooga Friday evening.

How it Happened
  • Cole Burke was locked in a tight battle at 174 pounds. Trailing 3-0 heading into the final period, Burke was able to get the escape. He attempted several takedown attempts in the final minute, but was unable to secure to tie the match.
  • The Bulldogs got on the board at heavyweight as Michael McAleavey used a quick shot take the lead in the opening period.
  • McAleavey would extend his lead with another takedown in the second before nearly getting the fall in the third on his way to a major decision.
  • Jake Rotunda was involved in a very hard fought match at 133 pounds against No. 21 Brayden Palmer. The match had a lot of excitement through two periods, but neither wrestler was able to score.
  • Palmer got on the board with a takedown in the third period, and Rotudna was able to escape late. Rotunda shot near the end of the match, but was unable to complete the takedown before the buzzer sounded.
  • Ethan Willis secured the second victory for the Bulldogs as he battled through a scramble to come out on top with the two points and the 6-4 decision.
  • Dazjon Casto closed out the night in impressive fashion with an 11-1 major decision. Casto took control of the match late in the second period as he got the takedown and four back points right before the buzzer.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs return to McAlister Field House for a pair of matches on Feb. 11 and Feb. 13. The Bulldogs welcome Gardner-Webb on Friday at 7 p.m., and host Bellarmine at noon on Sunday.
