CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel football team held its first practice in full pads Wednesday morning inside Johnson Hagood Stadium. The Bulldogs are currently in their second week of preseason practice leading into the Sept. 1 season opener.
"We have a long way to go, I know that," said head coach
Brent Thompson. "We have to settle on a few positions. We are still mostly healthy. We have a couple guys sitting out right now, but other than that we came out of today pretty healthy.
"We got what we wanted out of today. We had a little bit of contact, got a little bit of heat and went all the way to the fourth quarter. I thought our fourth quarter drill had good excitement and hopefully we can keep that up throughout camp."
The Bulldogs opened practice on Aug. 3 and completed the acclimation period leading into today's full pad practice.
Wednesday's practice featured three separate live periods throughout practice. Both sides of the ball made plays, including
Braden Walker scoring from three-yards out on a 4
th-and-goal
The defense came up with some big plays as
Dominick Poole intercepted a pass and
Avery Dixon scooped up a fumble and returned to 25 yards down to the two-yard line.
The Bulldogs will hold their first scrimmage of the preseason Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.
