CHARLESTON, S.C. – Three home non-conference games for The Citadel men's basketball 2022-23 season were announced this week. Head coach
Ed Conroy's team will welcome Presbyterian College in their regular season home opener Nov. 10, crosstown rival College of Charleston Dec. 3, and defending Big South champion Longwood on Dec. 17.
Season tickets and mini plans are currently available through The Citadel ticket office by calling 843-953-3647 or online at citadelsports.com/tickets.
In addition, The Citadel recently revealed a road matchup at North Carolina on December 13. The Bulldogs make their first trip to Chapel Hill since November 24, 1991 for their 20th ever encounter with the Tar Heels. It marks the first time in 20 years that The Citadel will face off with the previous season's NCAA Championship participant (at #11 Maryland – Nov. 27, 2002).
The Bulldogs' December matchup with the Cougars will mark their first meeting since 2016 and first in McAlister Field House since 2015. Since his introductory press conference in March, Coach Conroy discussed his desire to bring back the Holy City rivalry. The two schools were both members of the SoCon during Conroy's first run as The Citadel head coach from 2006-10, with the Bulldogs taking three of the last four in that span. College of Charleston joined the CAA beginning in 2013-14, with just four matchups since then.
The Citadel and Presbyterian College meet for the third consecutive year, with each claiming a home win in the previous two meetings. The Bulldogs own a commanding 49-25 lead in the all-time series.
It will mark the fourth meeting ever between The Citadel and Longwood since they began their competitive partnership in 2018. The Bulldogs have claimed the last two matchups over the Lancers, both on the road, including the team's last triple-overtime win back on Dec. 19, 2019 by a 102-99 decision. The Lancers won 26 games in 2021-22 along with the Big South championship. They earned the 14
th seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament, squaring off against three-seeded Tennessee in the first round.
