BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Citadel men's basketball team led 48-45 with seven minutes remaining but Campbell erupted for five 3-pointers in five minutes to steal a 65-58 win on Wednesday evening.
Elijah Morgan scored a game-high 16 points on 40% shooting from 3-point land to go along with seven rebounds.
Winston Hill chipped in 13 pts and eight boards while
AJ Smith added 12.
First Half:
- Transition 3-pointer by Christian Moore cut the deficit to one, 9-8.
- Camels triple pushed the difference to six, 18-12 CAMP.
- A pair of Smith free throws gave CIT a 22-20 lead, but CAMP answered on the next possession with a make from long range.
- Madison Durr's deep triple from the logo knotted the game at 27-27 with 1:27 to go until the break.
- With :48 ticks left, Colby McAllister gave CIT its largest lead of the evening, 30-27, as a CAMP bucket with one second left had the Bulldogs holding a one-point advantage at halftime.
Second Half:
- Morgan's 3-pointer put CIT ahead 35-29, 1:32 into the second stanza.
- CAMP responded with a 10-0 run to go up 42-39 at the 12:00 media timeout.
- Morgan hit another triple on the fastbreak as CIT went on a 10-0 run to take a 46-42 lead.
- Camels' 3-pointer put them back ahead 50-48 with six minutes remaining before back-to-back hits from deep gave CAMP a 57-52 edge with 3:13 left in the contest.
- Once again Morgan hit from long range as back-to-back 3-pointers kept CIT within two, 60-58, but CAMP responded with a three on the ensuing possession to hold on for the win.
