Track and Field Announces Signing Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel Track and Field head coach Kris Kut announced their 22-member signing class on Tuesday
"We are pleased to announce that 16 men and six women have committed to being part of the Citadel Track and Field/XC programs. We are excited about the group…they will all add depth to the program and will make an immediate impact next year", said head coach Kris Kut. "We are trying to fill some holes caused by this graduating class. We had some challenges and are lucky to have such a talented group with all the obstacles we faced over the last 24 months."

"Everyone on the staff did a great job putting together this special recruiting class. It was a difficult process, but we collectively feel this class will succeed not only on the track but in the classroom and the corps as well."

On the Men's Side
McConnell Burdette, Pendleton, S.C.(Pendleton)
Finished in first place as a senior in the Chick-Fil-A games, AOP County Relays, and in the Region…Earned two second-place finishes at the Foothills Classic and the Tri-County Championships…finished in third place at the Upper State Championships…as a junior, finished in second place at the Upper State Champions, and the Region…placed third at the Tri-County Championships…Earned fifth at the State Championships… three-year member of the Varsity Basketball team.

Chaz Campbell, Sprints, Arlington, Va. (Fork Union Military Academy)
Qualified for the State and National as a member of the Fork Union Military Academy Track program…member of the Fork Union Military Academy Rifle team during the 2020-2021 school year…member of the Dean's List for his senior year…President's List for 10th and 11th grade…member of the Honor Roll all four years at Fork Union Military Academy…2022 recipient of the Fork Union Military Academy Class of 1954 Academic Scholarship.

Wyatt Carey, Distance, Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt)
As a senior, qualified for Regional and the State Outdoor and Indoor Track and Field Championships…honored as the team's MVP for indoor and outdoor…earned the male All-Conference Athlete of the Year…qualified for the Regional for cross country and track…named the team's MVP for indoor and outdoor track and field as a junior…member of the National Honor Society.

Jordan Chestnut, Jumps, Columbia, S.C. (Spring Valley)
Member of the 2022 5A State Championship team…finished in fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump as a junior…honored as the Richland Country Track and Field MVP…All-State and All-Region in football…invited to the Carolina Bowl as a senior…Member of the AB Honor Roll.

Ben Fancher, Distance, Mount Pleasant, S.C. (Bishop England)
Plans to run cross-country and participate in distance events for the Bulldogs.

Gavin Murphy-McMeeking, Pole Vault, Johns Island, S.C. (Bishop England)
Plans to pole vault for the Bulldogs.

Arthur Parham, Jr., Javelin, Florence, S.C. (West Florence)
Finished in third place in the state as a senior and fifth as a junior in the javelin…member of the wrestling, varsity football, and varsity golf teams at West Florence High School…member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club…member of the first graduating class of West Florence Stem Magnet School…Great grandfather, Bazel Sheppard, Class of 1923, played football and baseball at The Citadel…Great uncle, Jack Sheppard, graduated from The Citadel in 1954.

William Owens, Throws, Simpsonville, S.C. (Southside Christian)
Became the school's discus record holder during his senior year…All-Region 1A shot put…qualified for Upper State for the shot put and the discus and qualified for both for the State Championships…Region 1A qualifier his Sophomore and Freshman year…member of the 2020 and 2021 1A Football State Championship team at Southside Christian…2022 1A All-Region Second-team in football.

Jack Scott, Pole Vault, McClellanville, S.C. (Wando)
As a senior, set a personal record of 14-00 at the Wildcat Classic…Tied for second in the Pole Vault in South Carolina 5A-region…set a PR in the long jump of 20-65…currently ranked number one in the long jump in the South Carolina 5A-region…As a junior, selected as All-Region…honored as the Wando MVP for Men's jumping events…won a region playoff…finished the season in fourth in the Lower State, and seventh at the State meet in the Pole Vault…Played defensive back at Wando High School…Two-year letterman.

Sam Seifert, Throws, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (Lucy Beckham)
Plans to throw the discus and shot put for The Citadel…member of the State Championship volleyball team at Lucy Beckham High School…competed on the swim team, finished in third place senior year, and finished as runner up junior and freshman year.

Jeremiah Shaw, Sprinter, McDonough, Ga. (Meadowcreek)
Plans to run sprints for The Citadel Track and Field program…looking forward to starting a career as a forensic specialist in the military.

Dylan Thompson, Sprinter, Frisco, Texas. (Lone Star)
As a senior, member of the All-District team, All-Area, and All-Regional in the 200m…holds the school record in the 200m…member of the 4x100m and 4x200m team that broke the school record…All-District in the 4x400m…All-State 4x100m and 4x200m relay team…member of the Texas UIL 5A State Runner-up team at Lone Star…played football and baseball at Lone Star High School.

Jack Weil, Throws, Mt Pleasant, S.C. (Lucy Beckham)
Plans to throw the javelin and the discus for the Bulldogs…plans to be a member of The Citadel football team as a walk-on…All-State specialist as a punter and kicker…received the team MVP award from Lucy Beckham…received the Life Scholarship.

Joshua Valentine-Whittaker, Hurdles and Sprints, Lakeland, Fla.
Plans to run sprints and participate in the hurdles for the Bulldogs.

Boykin Wilder, High Jump, Sumter, S.C. (Wilson Hall)
Top field performer 2022…Co-Point Champion Melicue Metts Invitational in 2022…Athlete of the Week for The Sumter Item, which is voted on by the community…achieved personal records in both the long and triple jump at the 2022 SCISA AAA Track & Field State Championships as Junior…played football at Wilson Hall…captain of the football team senior year…chosen for All-State and the All-Star team…competed in the North-South football Game…played baseball and basketball…selected as the Baron Ambassador.

Christian Wright, Sprinter, Cary, N.C. (Green Hope)
As a senior, finished First Team All-Conference…earned Academic All-Conference…honored as the indoor and outdoor team MVP…qualified for the Indoor National Championships in five events, and seven in the Outdoor National Championships…Finished in the top ten in 12 events all-time at Green Hope…first team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference as a junior…qualified for regionals as a sophomore…member of the varsity baseball and football team…named Offensive Football MVP…earned All-Conference…

On the Women's Side
Emily Danielsson, Throws, Charleston, S.C. (Charleston Southern)
Plans to throw the weight and hammer throw for the Bulldogs…recorded the tenth-best indoor weight throw at the 2020 Big South Indoor Championship at Charleston Southern…Seventh-best outdoor hammer throw with a mark of 163-10 at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Championship.

Sarah Grace Lucovsky, Distance, Callahan, Fla. (West Nassau)
Achieved a PR in 800m with a time of 2:50.18 as a senior…as a sophomore, team qualified for regionals…finished sixth in districts with the cross-country program… earned first place in 800m as a sophomore…member of the Beta club and the National Honor Society.

Jada Pate, Hurdles and Triple Jump, Lexington, S.C. (White Knoll)
Plans to compete in the hurdles and the triple jump for the Bulldogs… a member of the Fast Forward Track Club…plans to be a Navy pilot after college.

Julia Williamson, Distance, Campobello, S.C. (Landrum)
Plans to run distance events and cross country for the Bulldogs.

Danielle Williams, Sprints, Fort Mill, S.C. (Fort Mill)
Achieved a personal record of 1:00.98 in the 200m dash…team captain, and received a varsity letter her senior year…was named MVP sprinter of Fort Mill…participated in the Upper State Championships during her junior year…member of the varsity girls' basketball team at Fort Mill…honor roll member…currently is studying Korean and plans to major in Intelligence and Security Studies at The Citadel.

Karmen Williams, Throws, New Orleans, La (University of Alabama)
Former member of the University of Alabama Track and Field Team…plans to throw the javelin for the Bulldogs…finished in third place at the Mississippi State Bulldog Relays with a toss of 140-8…Earned a sixth-place finish in the javelin at the LSU Invitational with a throw of 131-5…went to Blount High School, finished as the javelin state record holder, javelin Champion, and shot put champion.
