GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team withstood a 50% 3-point performance by Furman in the first half, cutting the deficit to just three, 48-45, early in the second but the Paladins shot 57.1% from the floor in the second 20 minutes to win 82-68 on Wednesday night.
Madison Durr scored 17 going 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the floor while
Quentin Millora-Brown recorded his sixth double-double of the season, with 14 points and 13 boards.
First Half:
- CIT got the first bucket of the game, but FUR answered with a 10-0 run to race out to a 12-2 advantage.
- Keynan Davis' fastbreak three kept the differential at 10, 30-20, halfway through the opening stanza as CIT weathered an early 8-of-12 start from beyond the arc by FUR.
- The Paladins extended the lead to 15, 35-20, but the Bulldogs responded with a 10-0 run to trim the margin to just five with five and change remaining until halftime.
- A layup by FUR with :03 seconds left sent the teams to the break with the Paladins ahead 44-36.
Second Half:
- CIT cut the deficit to three, 48-45, but another FUR triple pushed the edge to 11, 56-45, five minutes into the second 20.
- The Bulldogs quickly got back within seven, however, a Paladins 3-pointer gave them their largest lead of the night at that point at 17, 68-51, at the 9:09 mark.
- FUR's 13th make from long range made it a 20-point affair, 77-57, with 5:13 left to play.
- A Bulldogs 7-0 spurt quickly dropped the deficit back to 13, at the 3:36 mark, but the teams traded baskets down the stretch as CIT fell 82-68.
