CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Citadel men's tennis team closed out the first weekend of their spring season, falling 0-7 to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.
- The Bulldogs lost the lone doubles point but Hayden Shoemake and Sebastian Kamieniecki took the top doubles match, 6-2 for a highlight of the day.
- Noah Van Dyke dropped his 4-singles match (0-6,1-6) to begin singles play.
- Shoemake won four games before falling in the opening set to one of his doubles opponents but was swept quickly 0-6 in set two.
- Kamieniecki was doubled up 3-6 in set one but pushed his opponent to the brink in set two, 6-7 (6-8) as the 49ers clinched the match at 4-0.
- Teo Cariov contributed another strong showing on the day for CIT as he took set one 6-3 before falling in the same fashion in set two to force a third set. Unfortunately, his opponent rode the momentum from the previous set winning the 6-3 in the third.
- Bradey Minnich was also doubled up 3-6 in the first before a quick 0-6 defeat in set two at 6-singles.
- Ted Bagwell had a good performance at 5-singles, winning four games in the opening set before forcing a tiebreaker in set two, losing the match 4-6, 5-7.
The Citadel takes a Florida swing next weekend, starting with the University of Florida on Friday, January 19.
