CHARLESTON, S.C..– The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team fell behind early to the UNCG Spartans on its way to a 76-61 defeat on Wednesday night.
AJ Smith recorded his first collegiate double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals.
Quentin Millora-Brown earned his 11
th double-double of the season, stuffing the stat sheet with 14 points, 11 boards, two dimes, two thefts and two blocks.
First Half:
- UNCG raced out to a 10-0 run 3:19 into the game, forcing an early CIT timeout.
- A Spartans 3-pointer nudged the margin to 12, 18-6, at the 11:52 mark, as the Bulldogs talked things over.
- A 13-1 UNCG run extended the difference to 23, 31-9, with 6:25 left in the opening half.
- The Bulldogs battled back to cut the deficit to under 20, 42-26, at the break.
Second Half:
- Smith's three trimmed it to 47-33, but UNCG answered with an 11-0 run to push the margin back over 20, timeout Bulldogs.
- UNCG continued the run to 15-2, to make it 62-35, before Smith's bucket and-1 stopped the run.
- A Keynan Davis triple off a dish from Morgan got the margin under 20 once again, 62-43, halfway through the second.
- Josh Davis hit from long range, making it a 14-point game, 70-56 with 3:43 left as UNCG closed out a 76-61 win.
