CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team overcame a slow start to trail by eight early in the second half, but the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers answered each time the Bulldogs got within striking distance, spoiling senior night 81-63.
Madison Durr led the Bulldogs with 18 points and six assists while
AJ Smith scored 17 and grabbed six rebounds.
Quentin Millora-Brown added 14 points, eight boards and two blocks.
First Half:
- A 12-2 ETSU run gave them an early 18-7 lead 5:35 into the game.
- Durr's free throw cut the deficit to nine, 24-15, but a Bucs jumper pushed the margin back to double-digits, 32-19, with 3:51 remaining until halftime.
- The Bulldogs closed the half on an 8-2 run to trail 38-29 at the break.
Second Half:
- Four straight Durr makes from the charity stripe pulled CIT within eight, 42-34, but ETSU answered with an 8-0 run to give the Bucs its largest lead of the game at that point at 50-34.
- Smith's 3-pointer halted the run at 58-45 but ETSU once again responded, this time with a 7-2 spurt, to push the margin back to 16, timeout CIT.
- A QMB three-point play trimmed the margin to 11, 65-54, but another ETSU 8-2 stretch ballooned the difference to 17, 73-56, with 2:54 to go as the Bucs closed out an 81-63 road win.
