CULLOWHEE, N.C.– The Citadel basketball team held a 64-63 lead with 2:09 remaining but the Western Carolina University Catamounts closed the game on an 8-0 run to best the Bulldogs 71-64 on Wednesday night.
Quentin Millora-Brown just missed a double-double, with 16 points and nine rebounds while
Elijah Morgan added 15 points and five boards.
First Half:
- Keynan Davis' driving layup helped CIT double up WCU 14-7 five and change into the game.
- WCU responded with an 11-1 run to take a slim 18-15 edge halfway through the opening stanza.
- The Catamounts extended the run to 18-3, pushing their lead to eight, 25-17, with 5:20 to play until halftime.
- Kam Roberts' hook shot cut the deficit to one, 27-26, with 1:15 to go as WCU added a bucket on the next possession to hold a 29-26 edge at intermission.
Second Half:
- A pair of WCU threes pushed the margin to 10, 49-39, at the 13:24 mark of the second but Levi Birkholz buried a three on the ensuing CIT possession.
- WCU nudged the margin back to nine, but a 7-0 CIT run trimmed the margin to two, 53-51, forcing the Catamounts to talk things over.
- A QMB hook shot gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game since 2-0, 59-58, at the five-minute mark, before an Elijah Morgan three kept CIT ahead 62-61 with 3:32 left to play.
- A Woolbright second chance effort put WCU back on top 65-64 with 1:30 on the clock, as the Catamounts closed the game on an 8-0 run to best the Bulldogs 71-64.
