BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Citadel basketball team fell behind early before Samford used a strong start to the second half to send the Bulldogs home with a loss on Wednesday evening.
Alabama native
Colby McAllister led the Bulldogs with 12 points and seven boards.
Brody Fox and
Sola Adebisi added 10 points each.
First Half:
- An 11-1 Samford run gave it a 20-9 lead at the 12:32 mark.
- Back-to-back Samford 3-pointers, part of a 9-0 spurt, stretched the score to 31-13, forcing The Citadel to take a timeout.
- Fox and The Citadel got to the line multiple times in the closing minutes of the half to trail 41-27 at the break.
Second Half:
- Four early 3-pointers by Samford pushed the differential to 25, 53-28, three minutes into the second half before a McAllister three halted the Samford run.
- Braylen Smith's driving reverse layup on his first possession of the game was part of The Citadel's 7-0 run midway through the half.
- A corner three by McAllister in the final minute closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
