Spartans Start Strong, Top Bulldogs 70-57

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Citadel basketball team was unable to erase an early 10-0 deficit, falling to the second-place UNCG Spartans 70-57 on Wednesday evening.

Brody Fox registered double-digit points for the fourth straight game, 21 points, while Colby McAllister added 10 and three steals.

First Half:
  • UNCG opened with a 10-0 run, forcing The Citadel to take a timeout at the 16:31 mark.
  • Fox drove to the lane and banked one off the glass to get The Bulldogs on the board, 10-2, over six minutes into the game.
  • A Christian Moore three-ball cut the deficit in half, 10-5, as UNCG endured an over a five-minute scoreless drought of its own.
  • Glover's 3-pointer pulled the Bulldogs within three, 16-13, but UNCG responded with a 6-0 spurt to open up a nine-point edge, 22-13.
  • A Fox hit from beyond the arc cut the deficit down to five, 24-19, but once again the Spartans answered with an 8-0 run to stretch the margin to 13, 32-19.
  • McAllister knocked down a corner three at the buzzer as the Bulldogs closed the half on a 10-2 run to trail 34-29 at the intermission.
Second Half:
  • UNCG scored the first five points of the second half to quickly regain a 10-point edge, 39-29.
  • The Spartans hit four of their next five three-pointers to take a 59-43 lead at the 10:49 mark.
  • Both teams endured over three-minute scoreless stretches as the score stood at 59-44 until a John Adams layup with seven to go.
  • Another Moore 3-pointer cut the deficit to eight, 59-51, as the Spartans remained scoreless for over seven minutes before a make from beyond the arc gave them a 62-51 lead at the 2:45 mark.
  • Fox hit a pair from the charity stripe to make the differential seven, 62-55, as each team experienced empty possessions before a Spartans' dunk with 1:02 to go made it a 64-55 affair.
  • Sola Adebisi got a quick layup on The Citadel's next possession, but UNCG made its free throws down the stretch to hold off the Bulldogs, 70-57.
