SPARTANBURG, S.C – The Citadel basketball team fell behind early before a 34-16 start to the second half pulled them within eight, 68-60, with 5:49 to go. The Bulldogs could not get any closer as their comeback attempt came up short, 79-68, on Wednesday evening.
Brody Fox led the Bulldogs with 18 points while
Paxton Davidson was close behind with 16, five rebounds, and four assists.
Cam Glover was a huge part of the Bulldogs' second half surge as all of his 14 points came in the last 20 minutes.
First Half:
- Wofford scored the first 11 points of the game to lead at the under-16 media timeout.
- A Fox three-point play made it a 22-9 deficit, but Wofford quickly responded with the next five points to go ahead 27-9 halfway through the opening half.
- Davidson's make from beyond the arc got the differential under 20, 39-20, but another five straight points by Wofford pushed the score to 46-22 at the under-4 timeout.
- The Terriers finished the half on a 15-4 run to hold a 52-26 advantage at halftime.
Second Half:
- Fox and Glover began the second half with 3-pointers, part of The Citadel's 8-0 start to the half, to force a Wofford timeout two minutes in.
- Glover hit another triple out of the timeout as the Bulldogs shrunk the deficit to 15, 52-37, before a pair of Fox free throws.
- Wofford finally got on the board in the half with a 3-pointer of its own to stop the bleeding at 55-39 at the under-16 media timeout.
- The Terriers led 66-52 after a made free throw at the 7:27 mark but long balls by Fox and Davidson, part of an 8-2 Bulldogs spurt, cut the deficit to just eight, 68-60.
- Wofford answered with a 3-pointer on the following trip down the court to go along with two makes from the charity stripe to push the margin back to double-digits, 73-61, at the under-4 timeout.
- The Bulldogs were unable to get it back to single digits as the Terriers made their free throws down the stretch to hold on, 79-68.
