MACON, Ga. – The Citadel basketball team trailed 13-12 midway through the first half, but the Mercer University Bears closed the session on a 21-6 run on its way to besting the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.
Brody Fox had 11 points and nine rebounds while
Paxton Davidson chipped in 10, four boards, and two helpers.
First Half:
- A wing three by Davidson made it a one-point affair, 13-12 Mercer, at the 10:31 mark.
- Second chance opportunities helped Mercer put together a 10-0 run to stretch the margin to 25-14 with 4:33 remaining in the first half.
- Colby McAllister hit a turnaround floater in the paint, but the Bears answered with a pair of triples to extend the differential to 31-16 on their way to a 34-18 advantage at the break.
Second Half:
- Cam Glover hit a 3-ball two and half minutes into the second stanza, 38-23 Mercer.
- A Bears' jumper extended the margin to 20, 55-35, at the 9:27 mark.
- A layup by Mercer with less than five minutes to go gave the Bears their largest lead of the game to that point, 69-40, on its way to the home victory.
