Freshman Gonzales Powers Bulldogs to Home Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's basketball team earned a 70–57 home victory over North Greenville on Wednesday night inside McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs used efficient perimeter shooting, strong early defense, and a standout effort from freshman guard Marcos Gonzales to maintain control throughout the night.

The Citadel set the tone immediately, racing out to a 14–0 start and later extending the opening stretch to 20–3 behind strong defense and crisp ball movement. Three-pointers from Keynan Davis and Sola Adebisi helped build the early cushion, while the Bulldogs held North Greenville to 9-of-25 shooting in the first half on the way to a 35–23 halftime lead. Gonzales provided a spark off the bench with nine first-half points, and Eze Wali added steady production on both ends. In the second half, North Greenville made several pushes, but The Citadel responded each time with perimeter shot-making and composure. Gonzales continued his strong outing, finishing with a single-game high 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a pair of threes. Wali added 11 points and six rebounds as he provided steady play on both ends, and Davis capped the effort with 13 points and three assists to help close out the victory. As a team, The Citadel shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor and 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from three-point range. The Bulldogs recorded 12 assists, 32 rebounds, and just eight turnovers, producing 13 points off NGU giveaways. North Greenville was limited to 40.4 percent shooting and forced into 11 turnovers.
