The Citadel Overwhelms Buffalo, Falls to Host NC State at Wolfpack Quad

12/21/2025 7:20:00 PM

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Anchored by a masterful 2-0 performance from Brodie Porter (184 lbs) plus a couple solids wins from Kyrel Leavell and Jacob Silka (157 lbs), The Citadel (4-5, 0-0 SoCon) secured a split in the program's calendar-year road conclusion at the Wolfpack Quad against No. 9 North Carolina State (8-3, 0-0 ACC) and Buffalo (2-7, 1-2 MAC), initially faltering to the host Wolfpack via a 29-12 margin before recovering behind a decisive 32-6 effort against Buffalo in back-to-back duals Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum.

"NC State is a Top 10 team in the country, they have a strong team with a bunch of talent," interim head coach Luke Welch said. "I think we had some good performances with Jacob Silka, Braxton Russell and Brodie Porter; they wrestled gritty and found ways to win and make it difficult for their opponent. Silka was losing and found a way to get a takedown late in the match to win. Braxton Russell was down, kept wrestling hard and broke the match open in the final minute to secure multiple takedowns for the win. Brodie Porter finding the fall was awesome to see, especially when the team win was out of reach.

"After the NC State match leading into Buffalo, I just told the guys let's regroup and end the day with a victory. I wanted them to fight for points and to wrestle stingy and not give up anything easy. We looked good with four matches won by bonus points. A couple major highlights included George Rosas coming back from losing 7-3 to pinning his opponent, and Brodie Porter had a gritty win in overtime. Overall I like where the team is heading and I think we are starting to figure some things out. I liked seeing some of our guys in tough matches and finding a way to persevere through and get wins."
