The Citadel Claims Two Titles, Secures Six All-SoCon Honors at Indoor T&F Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Citadel track & field program successfully concluded a two-day stretch at the Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, clinching a pair of individual titles -- Bradlee Jones in the 60m along with Emily Danielsson for the weight throw -- en route to a fifth-place finish for the men's squad and seventh overall for the women's side at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility.


KEY NOTES -- DAY TWO

-- For the men, Jones locked down the 60m individual championship, running a 6.80 mark to claim the gold medal
-- The sophomore returned for a strong outing in the 200m, picking up a silver medal off a 21.65 time
-- Andrew Granger composed a new personal best in the weight throw, registering a 55-0.75 toss en route to a silver medal along with the new No. 4 mark in the school annals
-- Ridge Dowe trailed just behind his teammate in the weight throw, notching third behind a 54-11.50 sling as he collected a new personal record along with the fifth-best position in program history
-- Jack Weil contributed a solid showing as he earned seventh in the weight throw, logging a PR on a 50-10.00 mark for the event; additionally, Will Owens slid in at a ninth via a 46-8.25 throw
-- Charles Campbell managed to secure fifth in the 400m, clocking a 49.46 time in a new personal best as well as ninth overall in the school record books
-- Jaxon Brewer picked up sixth the triple jump off a 42-4.25 bound
-- In the high jump, McConnell Burdette clinched sixth behind a 5-10.0 leap while Brewer locked down eighth via a 5-10.0 jump of his own
-- The 4x400m relay squad, comprised of Charles Campbell, Jared Campbell, DJ Warren and Wyatt Carey, clocked a 3:23.82 time for fifth overall
-- For the women, Danielsson impressed in the weight throw with her 53-2.75 toss, securing her first-ever SoCon title for her efforts
-- Additionally in the weight throw, Riley Lair notched a silver medal behind a personal record 51-9.75 sling of her own, good for sixth all-time in school history
-- Emily Pierontoni put together a new personal best in the 800m via a 2:14.88 mark, posting sixth overall and moving up into second within the program annals
-- In the triple jump, Tamia Levine broke the The Citadel freshman record for the event off a 35-4.0 bound, logging 10th for the event and notably clinching the second overall position in the school record books
-- Finally, the 4x400m relay team, composed of Danielle Williams, Pierontoni, Ellie Belcher and Abby Thiessen, placed eighth behind a 4:10.50 mark


KEY NOTES -- DAY ONE

-- For the men, Jones managed to qualify at the top spot in the 60m dash, running a 6.76 mark
-- The sophomore later qualified in the 200m behind a 21.63 personal best, good for third all-time in the school annals
-- Charles Campbell posted a new personal record in the 400m at a 49.80 time, qualifying for the finals in the process
-- Dillon McCarthy put together a solid performance in the pole vault, registering fourth overall behind a 15-11 leap
-- Jack Scott slotted in just behind McCarthy at seventh in the pole vault, logging a 14-5.25 bound
-- In the long jump, Brewer notched seventh for the Bulldogs off a personal best 21-0.75 mark
-- Jared Campbell clocked a new personal record of 1:54.15 in the 800m en route to ninth overall, good for third all-time within program history
-- The distance medley relay featuring Carson Diggs, Warren, Carey and Owen Sharnas, slid in at seventh off a 10.48.31 time
-- For the heptathlon, which will conclude Saturday, Arthur Parham currently holds eighth with 2210 points, already good for the eighth-best showing in school history
-- Additionally, the sophomore impressed with a shot put throw of 41-2.5, a new program best within the heptathlon
-- For the women, Pierontoni scored a new personal record en route to qualifying for the 800m finals, running a 2:14.89 and moving into the second position all-time for the Bulldogs
-- The distance medley squad composed of Thiessen, Williams, Belcher and Eryn Tufts posted a 13:13.41 mark, finishing seventh overall
-- Sara Grace Melton orchestrated a solid opening to the pentathlon, already recording 2131 points and moving into the ninth spot in the all-time record books
-- Williams notched a new PR in the 400m, clocking a 60:51 time and elevating to sixth all-time in the school annals
