The Citadel Set for VMI in SoCon First Round Tilt

GAME NOTES

The Citadel faces VMI in the SoCon Championships First Round on Friday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m. in Asheville.

LAST TIME OUT vs ETSU (3.1.25)
  • ETSU's top of the key three gave them a six-point lead, 19-13, before a Bulldogs' turnover led to a Bucs layup and caused The Citadel to take a timeout.
  • Another Bucs 3-pointer capped off a 22-2 run that opened up a 31-15 lead on their way to a 38-23 advantage at the break.
  • John Adams three-point play trimmed the margin to single digits, 43-34, four minutes into the second session before a Fox layup got the deficit down to seven.
  • ETSU responded with a pair of buckets to push the margin back to double digits, but a pair of McAllister triples kept The Citadel within eight, 50-42.
  • Another Bucs 3-pointer pushed their lead back to 11, 50-39, before an ETSU three-point play extended the differential to 13, 57-44, at the 10:30 mark.
  • On the Bulldogs' ensuing possession, McAllister drained another long ball before Fox's hoop and harm cut the deficit back to eight, 60-52.
  • This time ETSU answered with a 3-ball before a Bulldogs turnover led to a Bucs' layup and a 13-point advantage, 67-54, with 6:07 remaining.
  • Moore's jumper got it back within nine but a 12-2 ETSU run opened up a 19-point lead, 81-62, on its way to an 81-66 road win.
LAST TIME vs VMI (2.8.25)
  • Cam Glover's pull up jumper tied the game at 11-11 seven minutes into the contest.
  • A pair of VMI free throws opened up a seven-point edge, 28-21, before 3-pointers from Glover and Moore cut the deficit to three, 30-27 with 4:10 remaining in the first half.
  • The Keydets ended the session with an 11-4 spurt to hold a 41-31 lead at the break.
  • VMI kept the momentum going to start the second half, beginning it on a 13-3 run, to balloon the margin to 20 at 54-34.
  • The Citadel showed some fight with an 8-0 spurt to close the gap to 13, 59-46, forcing VMI to talk things over at the 12:11 mark.
  • A pair of Keydet free throws extended the difference back to 17, 68-51, but back-to-back threes and an Adebisi dunk capped off a 12-2 Bulldogs run that shrunk the deficit back to single digits, 68-61 with 6:15 to go.
  • VMI responded with the next five points after its timeout, 73-61, before a Fox layup with 54 ticks remaining made it an eight-point affair, 76-68.
  • The Citadel had to foul to give itself a chance but VMI went 6-for-6 from the line in the final seconds to hold off the Bulldogs, 82-70.
BRODY IS BALLING
  • Fox had double-digit point performances in 17-of-18 league games this season, including seven 20+ point performances this year.
  • At home, Fox netted 18 points (8-12 FG) with six boards before adding 14 and five at VMI.
  • He leads the team in scoring on the season at 16.7 ppg while shooting 49.9 percent from the floor.
MOORE PLEASE
  • Christian Moore has scored double-digit points in eight of his last nine games.
  • He had 16 points, four rebounds and four assists in the first go around before scoring 17 with nine boards, four assists and two blocks in the game played in Lexington.
  • In SoCon play, he's inside the Top 25 (23rd) in scoring at 11.2 ppg.
SOCON RANKS
  • John Adams is 15th in league play in field goal percentage at 51.7%.
  • Brody Fox is fifth in scoring at 16.7 ppg. 
  • Sola Adebisi is T-10 in blocks at 1.0 and 13th in rebounding a 5.5.
WE USED TO BE FRIENDS
  • The Citadel's Paxton Davidson and VMI's TJ Johnson were teammates a season ago at Lipscomb but will play against each other for the third time this season. 
TOURNAMENT TRACK RECORD
  • The Citadel is 3-0 against VMI in SoCon tournament play with the last matchp coming on March 2, 2018, a 78-70 Bulldogs win.
