ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Headlined by a trio of individual titles for
Gylon Sims (125 lbs),
Carson DesRosier (149 lbs) and
Thomas Snipes (165 lbs) along with two silver-medal finishes from
Patrick Brophy (197 lbs) and
John Chesser (285 lbs), The Citadel (10-4, 6-2 SoCon) orchestrated a monumental performance throughout the 2025 Southern Conference Championship, solidifying second overall as a program behind a total 73.5 points -- good for the best team outing since the 2013-14 campaign -- across the two-day event Friday and Saturday at Kimmel Arena.
For The Citadel, the individual championships for Sims, DesRosier and Snipes represent the first three-spot for the Bulldogs since Ugi Khishignyam (141 lbs), Aaron Walker (157 lbs) and
Marshall Haas (197 lbs) secured hardware at the 2014 SoCon tournament. Additionally, tacking on the automatic qualifier for Brophy courtesy of the SoCon postseason allocations serves up the first Citadel quartet to clinch NCAA berths since the five-man squad of Khishignyam (141 lbs), Matt Frisch (149 lbs), Walker (157 lbs), Turtogtokh Luvsandorj (174 lbs) and Haas (197 lbs) advanced to the national tournament during that same year.
Finally, Snipes along with head coach
Ryan LeBlanc garnered superlative recognitions post-championship as the former collected Most Outstanding Wrestler honors while the latter locked down the Southern Conference Coach of the Year distinction.
