Pro Bulldogs: JP Sears Shines for the Athletics

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former Bulldog and Athletics pitcher JP Sears has excelled for the Athletics as they enter the 2025 MLB All-Star break.
 
Sears, who was selected in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, continues to shine on the bump for the Athletics after being traded to them from the New York Yankees.
 
The native of Sumter, S.C., is 7-7 overall with an ERA of 4.79. He ranks second on the team behind Jeffery Springs, who has eight wins on the season. Sears is third on the team with 79 strikeouts and third with 97.2 innings pitched.
 
Sears' best performance of the season so far was a 6-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, during which he pitched 5.1 innings, struck out nine, and allowed two earned runs. He also struck out seven in a 2-1 win over the Texas Rangers on April 28. Notably, Sears picked up his seventh win in an 11-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
 
Sears, who has spent four years in the big leagues, has a record of 29-37 with a 4.44 ERA over 520.2 innings pitched, striking out 428 batters.
 
The Athletics are 41-57, which is fifth in the AL West, heading into the MLB All-Star break.
 
The Athletics begin the second half of the season on the road at the Cleveland Guardians on July 18.
