SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference announced a redesigned tournament format for the 2027 Ingles SoCon Basketball Championship on Monday, expanding the men's bracket to include all 11 conference programs.
The 2027 championships are scheduled for March 3-7 at the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
The men's tournament will feature an expanded opening day with three games on Wednesday, March 3. The No. 10 and No. 11 seeds will open the tournament at 3:30 p.m., followed by the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds at 6 p.m. The No. 6 and No. 7 seeds will close the opening day at 8:30 p.m.
The revised format adds an additional opening-round matchup to the men's championship and provides all 11 SoCon programs a path to the tournament title.
"The release of the brackets always creates another level of excitement as we begin looking ahead to the Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships in Asheville," SoCon Interim Commissioner Geoff Cabe said. "This year will be particularly special as we welcome Tennessee Tech to the tournament for the first time and expand the championship with two additional games."
The addition of Tennessee Tech increases the men's tournament field to 11 teams for the 2027 championship.
"One of the things that makes March special in the Southern Conference is that when the tournament begins, every team arrives with the same goal and the same opportunity - to win a championship," Cabe said.
