Adebisi’s Career High Leads Bulldogs to Program-Record Fourth Overtime Win

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sola Adebisi scored a career-high 27 points as The Citadel (10-21, 7-11 SoCon) defeated Wofford (19-12, 11-7 SoCon), 93-90, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The win marked the program's fourth overtime victory of the season, setting a school record, and secured the most Southern Conference wins since the 2009-10 season during head coach Ed Conroy's first stint.

The teams were tied 39-39 at halftime in a first half that featured multiple lead changes. The Citadel made five 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, and Adebisi scored 12 points before the break. Wofford made six first-half 3-pointers, and neither team led by more than six points before halftime.

Wofford opened the second half with a 7-0 run before The Citadel responded to tie the game midway through the period. The teams exchanged the lead in the final minutes of regulation. Holmes tied the game at 83 with six seconds remaining, and The Citadel's final attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

The Citadel outscored Wofford 10-7 in overtime. Logan Applegate connected on a 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining to give The Citadel the lead, and Adebisi secured a steal with 11 seconds left before converting free throws to close the game.

Adebisi finished 8-of-10 from the field and 11-of-13 at the free-throw line while adding four rebounds, three blocks and three steals in 44 minutes. His 27 points marked the highest individual scoring performance by a Bulldog this season, and his 11 made free throws were the most by a Citadel player in a game this year. The three blocks marked his ninth multi-block game of the season and his second consecutive game with three blocks. The three steals marked his eighth multi-steal game of the year. It was also his 10th game this season shooting 60 percent or better from the field with at least five attempts.

Braxton Williams recorded 18 points and six rebounds. Applegate added 14 points on four 3-pointers, his fourth game this season with at least four made 3-pointers. Carter Kingsbury dished out six assists. The Citadel bench outscored Wofford's bench 30-5.

The Citadel shot 52.5 percent from the field (31-of-59) and 50 percent from 3-point range (10-of-20), its highest 3-point percentage of the season. The Bulldogs went 21-of-28 at the free-throw line and forced 13 turnovers. In two of the last three games, The Citadel has recorded its two highest opponent turnover totals of the season with 14 against Chattanooga and 13 in this contest.

Nils Machowski led Wofford with 30 points. Kahmare Holmes added 25 points, and Cayden Vasko finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Following the game, head coach Ed Conroy said, "Sola had an outstanding performance. He played 44 minutes, drew fouls and impacted the game on both ends with blocks and steals. We did a good job getting into the paint and earning trips to the free-throw line, and that was important down the stretch. Our bench contributed, and we made the plays we needed in overtime. Hopefully we can take some of this momentum into the tournament."
