MBB Preview: Bulldogs Head to Birmingham for SoCon Clash at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Citadel (8–15, 5–5 SoCon) travels to Birmingham, Alabama, for a Southern Conference road matchup against Samford (11–12, 4–6 SoCon) on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Pete Hanna Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the game will stream on ESPN+.

Scouting The Citadel
The Citadel enters Thursday's contest after a 71–66 overtime win against UNC Greensboro, its third overtime victory of the season. The result gives the Bulldogs the most overtime wins in the Southern Conference and places them tied for second nationally. In that game, The Citadel recorded eight steals, its highest total in Southern Conference play this season and the third-highest overall this year, while limiting UNCG to a 42.1 percent shooting performance, the second-lowest field-goal percentage allowed by the Bulldogs in conference action. The Bulldogs concluded the month of January with five victories, the program's most in the month since the 2008–09 season and matching its highest January win total since the 2001–02 campaign.

Braxton Williams leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 13.3 points per game. Christian Moore is averaging 11.3 points per contest and ranks fourth among active Southern Conference players in career three-pointers with 106. Moore has made at least two three-pointers in 17 games this season, including six consecutive contests. Carter Kingsbury has provided consistent perimeter production, recording multiple three-pointers in six of his last nine games.

Defensively, Sola Adebisi ranks third among active Southern Conference players in career blocked shots with 51 and remains among the conference leaders in the category. Adebisi recorded three steals for the second consecutive game against UNC Greensboro and has four games this season with at least three steals.

Scouting Samford
Samford enters Thursday's matchup with an 11–12 overall record and a 4–6 mark in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off an 88–74 victory over Western Carolina in their most recent outing.

Offensively, Samford averages 77.7 points per game and shoots 43.7 percent from the field. Jadin Booth leads the team in scoring at 20.6 points per game and is shooting 42.1 percent from three-point range. Dylan Faulkner adds 17.6 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding at 7.8 rebounds per game.

Defensively, Samford averages 3.0 blocks per game and relies on interior presence to protect the paint, with Faulkner among the team's leaders in the category.
