Basketball Outlasts Chattanooga in Key Road Win, Edges Host Mocs, 78-71

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Fueled by a quartet of double-digit scoring performances, The Citadel (9–16, 6–6 SoCon) denied a late rally from Chattanooga (10–15, 4–8 SoCon) in a return to the win column, upending the host Mocs behind a final 78-71 margin Saturday afternoon at McKenzie Arena.

Braxton Williams and Sola Adebisi paced the Bulldogs off a pair of 18-point showings while Carter Kingsbury and Eze Wali stepped up late to finish with 16 points and 11 points, respectively. On the boards, Adebisi, Simeon German and Logan Applegate led the way with six rebounds apiece while Wali played the distributor via five assists.

As a team, The Citadel outpaced UTC in points off turnovers (16-to-10), points in the paint (38-to-36) and fast break points (16-to-15) while Chattanooga won the battle in bench points (40-to-11) and second-chance points (12-to-11). Overall, the Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent from the field (29-of-58) and buried 9-of-29 attempts (31.0 percent) from long range while posting a near-perfect 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) mark at the charity stripe, outgunning -- or matching (both finished 9-of-29 at the three-point line) -- the Mocs in every scoring facet.

The Bulldogs managed to maintain a lead for a majority of the first half, surrendering an advantage for two minutes late in the period before reclaiming a five-point edge entering the break. In the second, Chattanooga fought back quickly to force multiple lead changes before The Citadel finally clinched full control off an Adebisi dunk at the 8:36 mark, extending the advantage out to eight points (6:05 remaining) and hitting 5-of-6 at the free throw line over the final 35 seconds en route to the win.

The Citadel returns to action Wednesday in the final contest of a three-game road stretch at Western Carolina, tipoff slated for 7 pm ET.
