ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Citadel (11-22, 7-11 SoCon) fell to ETSU (22-10, 13-5 SoCon), 83-76, in the Southern Conference Championship Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Harrah's Cherokee Center.
Sola Adebisi led The Citadel with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Braxton Williams added 19 points and another five boards plus three assists, and
Keynan Davis finished with 11 points.
Blake Barkley led ETSU with 24 points and six rebounds. Jordan McCullum added 13 points, while Brian Taylor and Jaylen Smith scored 11 points each.
The Bulldogs shot a clean 50.0 percent from the field (29-of-58) and made 8-of-26 from 3-point range while committing nine turnovers.
ETSU surged to an early lead in the opening period, but the Bulldogs chipped away before picking up their first advantage at the 2:35 mark before halftime. The Buccaneers retook their edge with 1:29 to play in the first half before entering the break up 36-32. ETSU extended the lead in the second period, pushing into double digits at the 14:37 mark to play. The game featured just two lead changes and two ties, all in the first period.
The Citadel finished the season with seven wins within Southern Conference play plus a tournament victory, good for the program's first season with seven or more Southern Conference wins and a postseason victory since the 2009-10 season. The Bulldogs also reached that mark during the 2001-02, 1984-85, 1981-82 and 1978-79 seasons.
