CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team wrapped up the regular season Sunday with a pair of matches against Duke at the Earle Tennis Center, falling 7-0 in the opener before dropping the second match, 6-0.
Match 1 – Duke 7, The Citadel 0
Results
Duke claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
Noah Van Dyke and
Tucker Hendrix fell 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while
Ted Bagwell and
Diego Ladino dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2.
Reece Beckendorf and
Anthony Osipov fell 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles play, Van Dyke fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Bagwell dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match at No. 2, Beckendorf faltered 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Osipov was defeated 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4.
Tucker Hendrix and
Will Hart each fell 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Match 2 – Duke 6, The Citadel 0
Results
The second match was played in singles only. Bagwell dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 1, followed by Van Dyke at No. 2 by the same score.
Anthony Osipov fell by a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 3, while
Reece Beckendorf faltered 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
Will Hart and
Tucker Hendrix rounded out the lineup at Nos. 5 and 6.
"The opportunity to play a great Duke team on our home courts today in perfect weather was as good as it gets," head coach
Chuck Kriese said. "We competed well and every guy on our team grew a lot. Our guys are very good competitors, and they give their best every time out. Every guy on the team is locked into doing their very best for each other. I'm hoping that we can make a breakthrough at the conference tournament this year. We've played tough matches against every team in the league, and we look forward to competing next week in Chattanooga at the conference tournament."
The Bulldogs head to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2026 Southern Conference Tennis Championships. The Citadel, seeded eighth overall, will face top-seeded ETSU on Thursday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
