NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel (2-6) lost to Bethune-Cookman (2-5) 3-1 on Friday, falling 22-25, 25-23, 24-26, 6-25 on the second day of the Playa Bowls Invitational.

Jordyn Sims led the Bulldogs with a career-high 14 kills while hitting .333 and adding three blocks. Rachel Reininger recorded 10 kills, four service aces and 14 digs. Greta Pleuss finished with 30 assists, eight digs and one block, while Megan Stone collected a team-high 16 digs and added two assists.

For Bethune-Cookman, Alaya Rhodes recorded 12 kills, 20 digs and four blocks. Laura Lino dos Santos added 10 kills and 17 digs. Kaycee Pennie tallied six kills and a team-high six blocks, while Nola Hemphill finished with 17 assists, 11 digs and two service aces.

First Set | 22-25

Bethune-Cookman turned a 4-3 advantage into a 12-4 lead before extending the margin to 15-6.
The Bulldogs responded with six consecutive points, highlighted by two Reininger kills and a Luci Lippelgoos service ace. A Sims kill and a Bethune-Cookman attack error later tied the set at 16-16.
After the Wildcats moved back in front 21-18, The Citadel pulled even at 21-21 behind a Sims kill, an attack error and a block from Lippelgoos and Sims.
Bethune-Cookman claimed four of the final five points, closing the set with a Leila Hargrove kill for a 25-22 victory.

Second Set | 25-23

After Bethune-Cookman took a 9-7 lead, the Bulldogs responded to build a 12-10 advantage behind kills from Gwen Berry, Lippelgoos and Mia Watson.
The Wildcats later scored six consecutive points to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 20-16 lead, with Moriah Johnson recording a kill and two service aces during the run.
The Bulldogs closed the set with seven straight points after trailing 23-18. Berry delivered back-to-back service aces to tie the set at 23-23 before Lippelgoos recorded a kill for set point and Reininger finished the comeback with a kill for the 25-23 win.

Third Set | 24-26

Sims recorded three early kills and Reininger served consecutive aces as the Bulldogs jumped ahead 4-1. Bethune-Cookman worked back to tie the set at 7-7 before taking an 8-7 lead on a Kaleigh Williams kill.
The Bulldogs responded with kills from Reininger, Elizabeth Miller and Sims to build a 12-9 advantage before the Wildcats rallied to move in front 16-13.
With Bethune-Cookman leading 19-16, The Citadel won seven of the next eight rallies. Cameron Reese and Reininger recorded kills, while Berry added a service ace during a run that put the Bulldogs ahead 23-20.
Bethune-Cookman answered with four straight points to reach set point. A service error tied the frame at 24-24 before the Wildcats won the final two rallies for a 26-24 victory.

Fourth Set | 6-25

Emma Pastusic opened the set with a kill off an assist from Pleuss, but Bethune-Cookman answered with five consecutive points to take a 5-1 lead.
Reininger stopped the run with a kill, but the Wildcats responded with 11 straight points to build a 16-2 advantage. Williams recorded two service aces, while Lino dos Santos added three kills during the stretch.
Reininger added another kill off an assist from Jess Martin, and the Bulldogs followed with a point on a Bethune-Cookman attack error to make it 16-4 before the Wildcats controlled the remainder of the set.
