Dr. Greg Elliott enters his first year on Ed Conroy’s staff after a 30-year career coaching at the collegiate and high school level. Elliott started his coaching career in Georgetown County as an assistant Boys coach at Andrews HS and then named the head coach at Choppee HS(now Carvers Bay HS) before moving on to the college level. He was an assistant coach at The University of Southern Mississippi 1991-95. While at Southern Miss, the Golden Eagles advanced to the NIT in 1994 and 95, and had the privilege of coaching NBA Lottery Draft pick Clarence Weatherspoon. Elliott then joined Coach Bill Foster’s staff at Virginia Tech, as the Hokies advanced to the second round of the 1996 NCAA tournament before losing to the eventual national champions, the University of Kentucky.

Elliott returned to the state of South Carolina in 1996 as the Head Basketball Coach at Hilton Head High School, and later served as the school’s Athletic Director. Elliott finished his time at Hilton Head as the all-time winningest coach in school history, and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. He finished his high school coaching career at Summerville High School. During his prep career, his teams won over 300 games, six Region Championships and consistently advanced to postseason play. He was named Region Coach of the Year six times and served as Head Coach of the North-South All Star Game in 2012 and the North Carolina vs South Carolina All Star Game in 2015. He is a past President of the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and a charter member of the National High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Coach Elliott earned his B.S. degree at Francis Marion College and received both his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi in Educational Leadership. He is married to Jaye Jones Elliott and the couple resides in Summerville.
