Rett Russell joined The Citadel football staff in August 2024 as the Director of Football Operations & Player Personnel, overseeing recruiting operations, player evaluation, and roster management.
In his role, Russell handles responsibilities ranging from the evaluation and recruitment of both high school prospects and graduate transfers to the management of day-to-day football operations including team travel, meals and on-campus recruiting logistics. He plans, coordinates, and executes all recruiting events, including official visits, gameday visits, junior days and summer camps. During the summer, Russell manages six prospect camps, highlighted by an 18-team 7-on-7 competition.
Additionally, Russell coordinates all NFL scout visits and leads the planning and execution of The Citadel’s annual Pro Day.
Russell joined The Citadel full-time after previously serving as an operations intern for the program. In that role, he assisted with junior days, spring practices, summer camps, on-field instruction and film breakdown in support of the coaching and operations staffs.
A former Division I student-athlete, Russell competed at both Wofford College and The Citadel and was a member of two Southern Conference championship teams. He earned a full scholarship after beginning his collegiate career as a walk-on.
Russell earned his Master of Business Administration from The Citadel in 2023 after graduating from Wofford College in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics,
