The Citadel Cross Country Opens Season Saturday Morning in Spartanburg

Spartanburg, S.C. The Citadel cross country teams will open the 2008 season in Spartanburg Saturday morning at the Eye Opener, hosted by USC Upstate. Both teams open the season with a corps group of young, talented runners. Both teams were picked to finish eighth in the Southern Conference this season.
On the men's side, juniors Brendan Kightand Alex Anderson will be looked upon to guide the young team to a successful start to the season.. Kight already has two well-run seasons under his belt while Anderson, a transfer from Florida International, posted some great times in his first year at The Citadel. Zach Johnson will be hoping to transfer a breakthrough outdoor track season into a successful cross country season this fall. Johnson made the finals of the 800m in last year's track championships and ran a personal record 800m time of 1:53.87 at Clemson.
On the women's side, the junior duo of Katheryn Gatewood and Natalie Wolin combined for all of the top finishes last season, including at the 2007 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. Both juniors are expected to continue to set the pace for the team this year.
