CHARLESTON, S.C. -
The Citadel wraps up the 2014 season on Saturday with the Military Classic of the South and the battle for the coveted Silver Shako when the Bulldogs take on VMI in Lexington, Va., at 1:30.

The game can be seen live on ESPN3 and heard throughout South Carolina on The Citadel Sports Network beginning with the tailgate show at 11:30 a.m.

The Bulldogs (4-7, 2-4 SoCon) have maintained the Silver Shako since a 27-23 win in Charlotte in 2003, which was also the most recent time the teams have met as conference rivals. The Citadel has defended the trophy six times since then, including a 31-10 win at home a year ago.

VMI, which last defeated The Citadel in 2002, is 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Head coach Sparky Woods has faced the Bulldogs at three different schools, going 4-1 at Appalachian State, 0-1 at South Carolina and 0-3 with the Keydets.

The Citadel's current seven-game winning streak over VMI has given the Bulldogs a 37-30-2 lead in the series. The 37 wins are the most The Citadel has against any continuous Division I opponent. The only schools the Bulldogs have claimed more victories over are Presbyterian (50) and Wofford (40), but many of those came when they were NAIA or Division II programs.

Although the teams have played 69 times, only 34 have come with the Silver Shako on the line, as the trophy was not introduced until 1976. The Bulldogs are 23-10-1 with the Silver Shako at stake.

Quarterback Aaron Miller enters the game in contention for the SoCon rushing title. He trails Mercer's Alex Lakes by 52 yards in his attempt to become the first Bulldog to finish first in the league in rushing since Jack Douglas in 1991. Miller also needs 159 passing yards to become the first Citadel quarterback with 1,000 yards on the ground and through the air in the same season.

Keydet freshman quarterback Al Cobb paces the SoCon with 2,575 passing yards, and his 18 touchdown aerials are just one behind the conference leaders.
