CHARLESTON, S.C. - Kim Maldonado staked The Citadel to a 1-0 halftime lead before UNCG erupted for four goals after intermission to give the Spartans a 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs in a Southern Conference women's soccer match Sunday at WLI Field.

The Citadel dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon, while UNCG improved to 5-4-3 and 1-0-1 in league play. The contest ended a four-game homestand for the Bulldogs.

Maldonado scored her second career goal in the 11th minute when her corner kick tucked just inside the post without being touched. Naomi Carter kept it a 1-0 game at halftime by making five saves over the opening 45 minutes.

The Spartans took control after halftime, totaling 14 shots during the period and finding the net four times. A shot by Chesney White hit the crossbar, and Katherine Rodriguez tapped in the rebound 12 minutes into the second half to tie it. White then put UNCG ahead to stay with a goal just 1:17 later.

UNCG tacked on two insurance goals when Rodriguez and White both scored their second of the game later in the half, with White increasing her season total to nine.

Carter finished the game with eight saves, and Kirsten Glad had 10 for the Spartans. UNCG held a 22-16 advantage in shots and took 10 corner kicks to only three for The Citadel.

The Bulldogs hit the road next weekend for SoCon games at Furman on Friday at 7 p.m. and Wofford on Sunday at 2 p.m.
