Bulldogs Drop SoCon Contest

Box Score (PDF)

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought loss on Friday night to Western Carolina 2-0.

The Catamounts (6-5-2, 2-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Courtney Rosu found the back of the net. Western Carolina would hold on to the one-goal advantage heading into halftime.

The score would remain 1-0 until 11 minutes left in the second half when Western Carolina would tack on another score to make it a two-goal lead. The Citadel was unable to answer in the final minutes of the second half and the Catamounts would take the game 2-0.

The Bulldogs (1-13, 0-4) recorded seven shots in the first half and then added another five in the last 45 minutes of play. The second half was largely a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find an offensive momentum until late in the game.

Despite giving up two goals in the match, Kim Mora was a defensive force in the net for the Bulldogs. The freshman was peppered with shots all night, recording nine saves as the Catamounts tallied 28 shots.

The Citadel will have a day off before traveling to Johnson City, Tennessee, on Sunday to face East Tennessee State for a 2 p.m. SoCon contest. Live stats and video will be available at CitadelSports.com.
