CHARLOTTE, N.C. -Â The Citadel basketball team fell to Charlotte, 111-93, on Tuesday night at Halton Arena. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs finish nonconference play above .500 (7-6) for the first time since 2007-08.

Quinton Marshall shot 8-of-17 from the field and scored a team-high 20 points while
Derrick Henry added 19 points and matched his career-high with eight rebounds. Henry and Marshall have each reached double figures in 10 consecutive games.

Charlotte's presence in the paint proved to be the difference as the 49ers held a 43-31 rebounding edge. 49ers forward Joseph Uchebo controlled the frontcourt with 19 points and 15 rebounds and Charlotte finished with 62 points in the paint.

Tuesday's contest featured a game of runs. With The Citadel trailing 22-21, the 49ers used a 22-5 to seize an 18-point lead. Head coach
Duggar Baucom's scrapped its way back into the game behind a spark from freshman
Matt Frierson off the bench. He picked off a Charlotte pass, which resulted in a kickout three by
Warren Sledge. Frierson played a career-high 22 minutes, tallying nine points and three steals.

In the final 3:23 of the first half, the Bulldogs made five consecutive field goals and held Charlotte to just one field goal. Marshall capped a 17-5 Citadel run with a three-pointer. The senior made a career-best four treys in the loss as Charlotte's lead was trimmed to 49-43 at the half.

The 49ers, coached by former NBA star Mark Price, put their foot on the gas early in the second half to grab the momentum back. Uchebo scored five field goals in a three-minute stretch, allowing the 49ers to secure a 15-point lead.

The Citadel stayed within 20 until the final minutes, but could not chip away at the second-half deficit. Junior
Brian White converted a pair of tough late buckets and finished the game with 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting.

The Bulldogs now turn to the Southern Conference slate, which opens at home vs. preseason league favorite Chattanooga. The Citadel tips off Saturday against the Mocs at 1 p.m. at McAlister Field House.
