CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel track and field head coach
Jody Huddleston announced on Wednesday that 20 student athletes will join the program as part of the class of 2019.
Among the 20 future cadet-student-athletes include five from the Palmetto State and three from the Lowcountry. They are
Matt Bickley (Chapin HS),
Max Fleming (Wren HS), Emmanuel Josiah Johnson (Fort Dorchester HS),
Louis Lawrence (Garrett Tech), Matt Tanner (James Island HS) and
Bethany Reeves (Stratford HS).
On the women's side, Huddleston and his staff are looking forward to the addition of Goose Creek and Stratford High School product
Bethany Reeves. Reeves, who has a personal record of 19:18 in the 5k, is considered one of the fastest runners recruited by The Citadel and is projected to be in the top five on the team.
The Bulldogs class includes a commitment from
Charlie Hatler, a thrower from Pope John High School in Branchville, New Jersey, who is looking to follow in the footsteps of assistant coach
Kris Kut. Hatler was 12 feet shy of Kut's high school record, which ranked him second in Pope John history with the usage of a rubber tip.
