CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel earned its first win of the season 4-0 Sunday at W.L.I. Field against Francis Marion.

Ana Da Costa got the Bulldogs (1-7) on the board in the first half after punching one in from inside the six-yard box after a kick from midfield was saved by the keeper. The Citadel would take a 1-0 lead into halftime after holding the Patriots (1-7) to five shots.

The offense continued to click in the second half as the Bulldogs scored three goals in seven minutes.
Ray Brown tallied her first goal of the season after receiving the pass from
Emilie Valenciano and firing it into the left corner of the net.

Andrea Davila would notch her second goal of the season one minute later after receiving the ball from
Katherine Arroyo. Arroyo also collected her second goal and assist this season after scoring in the 76th minute.

The Citadel outshot the Patriots 24 to 8, their highest shot total in the 2015 season. Da Costa and Valenciano led the Bulldogs in shots with five each.

Freshman keeper
Abby Koger earned her first win of the season in the net, recording one save in 45 minutes of work. The Citadel had four corners while Francis Marion had three.

The two games this weekend were a part of the Nike Challenge 2 featuring Charleston Southern, Morehead State and Francis Marion. Valenciano and
Sam Waarum were selected to the all-tournament team for their strong play in the two games.

"I'm very happy for the girls," head coach
Bob Winch said. "They worked really hard and played good soccer."

The Bulldogs will travel to Winthrop on Friday for a 6 p.m. game and then visit College of Charleston on Sunday at 1 p.m.Â
