CHARLESTON, S.C. – After a four-game road swing, The Citadel women's soccer team returns home this weekend to host Southern Conference opponents UNCG and VMI.
The Bulldogs split their two games last weekend, defeating Wofford on Thursday and then dropping Sunday's contest to Furman. The 1-0 win over Wofford marked the first time in program history that The Citadel defeated the Terriers on the road, with the lone score coming in the 11th minute on a goal by
Samara Nche.
The goal at Wofford last week was the third of the season for Nche as the graduate student currently leads the team with six points. Nche is followed by
Katherine Arroyo and
Mady Riegel, both of whom have two goals and five points in 2016. Sophomore
Emilie Valenciano ranks fourth in the SoCon in shots and shots per game and has tallied a team-best 37 shots so far this season.
UNCG currently stands at 5-8-2 and 2-2-1 in SoCon play with wins over Western Carolina and Furman. VMI is 2-3 in conference action and 5-9 overall, picking up SoCon wins over UNCG and Wofford.
Friday's game against UNCG is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. and Sunday's game against the Keydets is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Live stats and video will be available for both games at CitadelSports.com. For more information on The Citadel soccer, follow
