Bulldogs Wrap Up Regular Season

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Competing for the last time before the Southern Conference Championships, The Citadel cross country teams ran at the VertCross Invitational on Friday evening.
The women's team placed 16th out of 20 teams in their first 6K race of the season. The men's team did not place in the 8K event, due to having just four runners compete.
Caillian Colquitt paced the Bulldogs once again, finishing in 58th place out of 134 qualifying runners in 23:45.42. Grace Jenkins crossed the finish line in 93rd for the Bulldogs in 24:34.65, followed closely behind by Bethany Reeves in 98th place in 24:43.38.
The women's team had seven runners in the field, with Dana Duggan and Daniella Sanchez-Martinez rounding out the team's scoring in 112th and 115th place.
With just four runners, the men did not get an official team finish, but still recorded strong times against the toughest competition they've seen so far this season. Jamie Cunningham led the Bulldogs with his second best time in the 8K. The junior placed 99th out of all competitors, crossing the finish line in 26:57.87.
Eric Avalos recorded a new personal best in the 8K, improving his time by over 10 seconds in 28:42.85. Alex Cothran finished in 29:09.11, followed by Mustapha Elgazar in 29:43.82.
The Bulldogs will next compete on Oct. 28 at the SoCon Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
