HAMPTON, Va. –The Citadel women's soccer team downed Hampton in dominating fashion on Friday afternoon, tallying a season-best 37 shots in the 2-0 victory. The win also marked the fifth shutout of the year for the Bulldogs, tying a program record set back in 2009.

"Five wins is a big achievement for this group and it shows we are making progress," The Citadel head coach
Ciaran Traquair said. "Today was a challenge with our numbers but the girls battled through and got the result we wanted. I'm happy to get a shutout on the road and am looking forward to Sunday and senior day."

The Bulldogs (5-11) took control of the game in the first half, grabbing a 1-0 lead thanks to a breakaway goal by
Emilie Valenciano in the 28th minute. The goal was the second of the season for the sophomore and was the only score in the first 45 minutes of play. Heading into the halftime break, The Citadel had already notched 20 shots in the match.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the 'Dogs heading into the second half before
Samara Nche sealed the win with a goal in the 89th minute. The goal was the fourth of the season for Nche who finished the game with four shots and three shots on goal.

The Citadel finished the day with 37 shots, the most in any game this season and 11 more than its previous best against LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 4. Valenciano led the Bulldogs with a season-best 10 shots in the match and
Caroline Cashion registered eight.

Logan Leask and
Abby Koger saw action in goal for The Citadel and combined for nine saves in the game. Hampton (2-7-1) was held to just 12 shots in the contest.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they host Mercer. Sunday will also serve as Senior Day for Cashion,
Ilana Green,
Brogan Felga and
