CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team begins postseason play this Wednesday when they travel to VMI for the first round of the Southern Conference tournament.
Last weekend, The Citadel wrapped up regular season action with a 2-0 win over Hampton on Friday and a narrow 1-0 loss to Mercer on Sunday. The shutout over Hampton marked the fifth time this season the Bulldogs have shut out an opponent, tying a program record set back in 2009. The Bulldogs also recorded a season-best 37 shots in the win over the Pirates.
Emilie Valenciano continues to lead The Citadel with 56 shots and 25 shots on goal, ranking fourth in the SoCon in shots and shots per game. The sophomore finished with a SoCon individual high 10 shots against Hampton and was recently named team captain by head coach
Ciaran Traquair.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 5-12 overall record and a 1-8 mark in Southern Conference play. VMI comes into the game with a 7-11 record and finished SoCon play with a 4-5 record. In the first matchup between the two teams in Charleston on Oct. 16, the Bulldogs fell 2-0 despite leading the Keydets 12-11 in shots.
