Game Notes: vs. Samford

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The 5th-ranked Citadel football team is back in Johnson Hagood Stadium this weekend for Homecoming and Senior Day. The Bulldogs host No. 20 Samford on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN3. • The Citadel is one of two remaining undefeated teams in FCS and one of seven unbeatens remaining in Division I.
• The Bulldogs have registered the best start to a season in program history, surpassing the 1992 team's 6-0 start.
• The Citadel has broken the program record for most consecutive wins in a single season and tied the record for longest overall winning streak.
• Brent Thompson has broken The Citadel's record for most wins to start a career and the program record for most wins by a first-year head coach.
• The Citadel is 6-0 in the Southern Conference for the second time in program history and for the second year in a row.
• Brent Thompson is the first head coach in The Citadel history to win six Southern Conference games in his first season.
• The Citadel is ranked in the top 5 in three straight weeks for the first time since the final three weeks of the regular season in 1992.
• The Bulldogs have been ranked for 15 straight weeks, tying the longest streak in program history established in 1992-93.
• The Citadel is ranked in the top 10 for the seventh straight week, its longest stretch inside the top 10 since 12 weeks, including four at No. 1, in 1992.
• The Bulldogs are 29-17 all-time when ranked, including 27-14 against FCS opponents, and 10-2 when ranked in the top 5.
• The Citadel's win vs. No. 5 Chattanooga was the first in a top-10 matchup in program history.
• The Bulldogs rushed for 500 yards in back-to-back games for the first time in school history, totaling 559 yards at North Greenville one week after rushing for 513 yards at Western Carolina.
• The Citadel's 559 rushing yards at North Greenville are the most in a game by an FCS team this season. The Bulldogs have four of the top-14 rushing totals in FCS this season with their 513 yards at Western Carolina ranking 5th, 427 yards against ETSU ranking 12th and 419 yards at Gardner-Webb ranking 14th.
• The Citadel broke single-game records for total offense plays in regulation (94) and rushing plays (84) in the 37-14 win at Western Carolina.
• The Citadel's 8.0 sacks at Western Carolina are the most by a Southern Conference team this season and tied for 2nd-highest in a game in FCS.
• The Bulldogs have held three opponents to under .167 on 3rd-down conversions, including holding Western Carolina to 0-for-8.
• Since the beginning of the 2015 season, The Citadel has forced 46 turnovers for an average of 2.2 per game.
• The Citadel is the only FCS team that has not allowed a sack this season. The Bulldogs also are ranked 1st in FCS with an average of 2.88 tackles for loss allowed per game.
• The Bulldogs have only allowed 22 points in the 4th quarter this season, the lowest total in the Southern Conference, and have not allowed a point in the 4th quarter at home.
