SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Middle hitter
Sarah Dobrich set a new single-season program record with 89 block assists in a four set loss 21-25, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-19 against Wofford on Saturday afternoon.
The freshman Dobrich finished the match with two block assists, passing Lauren Hurt's 87 block assists total from 2012. Dobrich also added four kills and a .375 hitting percentage for the Bulldogs.
Outside hitter
Moriah Smith came within a kill of setting her own record, tying Rachel Sanders (2007) with 432 kills this season. The junior finished with 11 kills, five digs and one block assist against Wofford.
The Bulldogs opened the match with a 25-21 first set victory over Wofford. The Citadel opened a 7-3 lead in the set on a
Jen Barbot kill, but Wofford answered with five of six points to tie the set 8-8. The set featured nine tie scores with the last at 19-19 before the Bulldogs took six of eight points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Wofford answered back with a dominant second set, cruising to a 25-15 victory to even the score. The Bulldogs attempted to regain their lead, holding a 19-18 late lead in the third set. Wofford jumped in front 22-20, but The Citadel retied that match at 22 apiece after two Wofford errors. The host Bulldogs grabbed the final three points of the set, however, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
Wofford continued its momentum in the fourth set, hitting a match best .333 from the floor, taking the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Middle hitter
Dominique Williams finished with eight kills and a .389 hitting percentage. Setters
Logan Smith and
Priscilla Irizarry each recorded 17 assists. Libero
Samantha Espy had a team high 14 digs.
The Bulldogs return home for the final time this season, hosting ETSU on Friday at 6 p.m. and Western Carolina on Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday's match will also be Senior Day, when the Bulldogs will celebrate the careers of seniors
