2/18/2016 11:52:00 AM | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams head up to Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday for the Gamecock Invitational. It will be the Bulldogs' final preparation before the 2016 Southern Conference Indoor Championships that take place in Birmingham, Alabama next week.
Saturday's action at the USC Fieldhouse begins with field events at 9 a.m. while track events launch at 12 p.m. Results will be available at gamecocksonline.com after the completion of the meet.
The Bulldogs are coming off last week's High Point Challenge that ended with 18 new personal records, including 10 secured by the men and eight by the women. The Citadel's crop of throwers look to build on their best group performance of the season as four hurlers heaved personal-bests last week. Sophomore Derrick Freeland leads the bunch in the weight throw after tossing a PR of 14.85 meters at High Point.
The Citadel's relay teams are peaking at the right time. Both the men's and women's 4x400 squads clocked their best times of the season last week. The men's group of Devin Singleton, Tevin Williams, Tyler Jackson and Josiah Johnson finished second overall with a 3:24.85.
The women's 4x400 team of Sarah Johnson, Summer Thompson, Hannah Murray and Ty'Rhonza Harris secured a season-best time of 4:16.31. The men's and women's 4x400 relays will wrap up competition at the Gamecock Invite at roughly 3:25 p.m.
