Bulldogs Compete at Gamecock Invite

COMPELTE RESULTS

COLUMBIA, S.C.
– In their final tune up before the 2016 Southern Conference Indoor Championships next week, The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams competed at South Carolina's Gamecock Invite on Saturday. The Bulldogs faced off against a loaded field at the one-day meet.

Junior Malik Diggs shined Saturday to lead the pack. He clocked the third-fastest prelims time in the 55-meter high hurdles and eventually finished fifth overall in that event with a 7.86 finals time. It was Diggs' personal best and gave him the seventh-quickest time in program history.

Juniors Mick Noel and Jackson Nosbisch represented the Bulldogs well in the high jump competition. Both cleared 1.95 meters to secure season-best results and place third and fourth overall, respectively.

Elsewhere Derrick Freeland continued his stellar indoor campaign with a pair of solid throws. In the shot put, he led the Bulldogs with a heave of 14.68 meters and placed fifth overall. It was his second-longest throw in that event this season. Freeland also finished fifth in the weight throw, narrowly missing his personal best (16.39 meters) with a toss of 16.33 meters.

On the women's side, freshman Bethany Reeves collected a personal best time in the 1-mile run with a 5:55.02. That allowed her to finish fifth overall. She additionally placed fourth in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:43.46.

In the long jump competition, Asyria Daniels secured her second-best leap of the indoor season, reaching 5.10 meters to finish fourth. Freshman Dymond Ettson followed in sixth place with a personal-record jump of 4.70 meters, which now ranks eighth all-time in program history. Meanwhile, Katherine Keller cleared 1.52 meters in the high jump to earn the fourth-highest jump in program history,

Mady Riegel and Kaitlyn Moore combined for big results in the weight throw as Riegel threw 13.25 meters and Moore threw 12.47 meters. Riegel's toss now ranks fifth all-time and Moore ranks 10th all-time in that event.
